MCA President Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting has announced that he will not be defending his post at MCA’s forthcoming party elections on Oct 18. His deputy Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy is reported to have the same intention not to seek re-election and would make an official announcement on the matter soon. [Bernama]
With the top two seats opened for competition, there are plenty of rooms for speculations obviously.
From the trend it seems like the current leadership is in favour of vice-president Datuk Ong Tee Keat, who has been walking side by side with Ong Ka Ting in some grassroots’ visits recently.
Party secretary-general Datuk Ong Ka Chuan is likely to join hands with Ong Tee Keat to contest for the deputy post. If he is to go directly for the top, people would probably claim nepotism and it could backfire on him. Besides, he is not really a popular leader all these years… far behind the popularity his brother used to have.
The interesting thing is actually on the outsiders… Chua Soi Lek for example, might be making a comeback after his infamous sex scandal. It would be totally bizarre if he becomes the party president though, regardless on how discontent the party members are to the current leadership.
Chua Soi Lek the blogger.
The Chinese writings are unnecessary, really… if we want to build a Malaysia for all Malaysians, at least show some courtesy to write in a language that everyone can understand. I know, the blog provides English version of the Chinese articles as well… but why not just in English, or perhaps in BM instead?
ESPN has apologised to Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for displaying the wrong FAM logo on Feb 13 during a live telephone call to FAM secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad.

The parodied FAM logo
During the Sportscenter Asia broadcast on Wednesday, ESPN showed a parodied-logo instead of the official FAM logo.
It’s reported by Utusan that the staff from Sportscenter Asia had searched for the logo online and had mistaken that as the official logo.
I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw the ‘logo’ on Jeffrey’s website… how on earth could the ESPN staff mistaken this as the official logo? The parodi-ness is blatantly obvious.
FAM website under construction &
Malaysia web development
FAM website has been under construction for quite some time, and the ESPN staff obviously couldn’t get the logo from an official source. The website would only be back by March 1 according to Azzuddin.
It is a shame that FAM’s website has to be taken down for weeks for reconstruction. This actually exposed a serious issue on how incompetence some web development companies in Malaysia are and how some Malaysian websites are poorly managed.
I don’t count myself as an IT expert, but if I were to handle the FAM’s website reconstruction, the website shouldn’t be down for more than 2 hours; worst case scenario… 48 max. All the contents building and testing should have been done without taking down the site.
I don’t want to bore you with the technicalities… another prime example of poor website management can be seen from the Parliament official website where Chua Soi Lek is still listed as our health minister despite resigning for almost 2 months following his sex scandal.
Dr Chua Soi Lek has resigned as Health Minister for 4 days now, and a new acting Health Minister (Ong Ka Ting) has been announced for a couple of days… but our parliament website has yet to make necessary changes…

Screenshot of Malaysia Parliament website (on
Jan 6 Feb 17; still no changes)
It’s the Official Website of the Parliament of Malaysia; not a website running by cats and dogs… how could they not keep this kind of information up to date?
“My biggest mistake ever since coming to KL is to fulfil my duties as the Health Minister and as MCA vice-president,” declared Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who quit as Health Minister and from all party posts after admitting he was the man featured in a sex DVD, copies of which were widely distributed in Johor.
The 60-year-old Johor politician said his visits to inspect health facilities nationwide and meeting MCA grassroots members gave rise to speculations that he had political agenda, thus becoming a target for people to bring him down politically. [Bernama]
In an earlier interview, Chua however said that his biggest mistake was that he stayed in the hotel and in the same room for convenience.
Seems like Chua is ‘admitting’ lots of mistakes here… he somehow failed to realize though, that his biggest mistake is having sex with the other woman other than her wife.
It doesn’t matter if someone is a minister, a political leader, a secretary, a factory worker, or just somebody on the street… if you are married, you will need to learn to keep your pants up in front of other women.
Chua Soi Lek chose to take his pants down instead… THAT is his biggest mistake.
If he has had a normal private life, his political enemies won’t have a chance to take him down… at least it would be much harder to do so.
Still, a huge mistake doesn’t make him an entirely bad person. I wish him and his family well… it’s time to give this man some peace.
MCA (former) vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who yesterday admitted to being the man in the sex DVD, copies of which are widely distributed in Johor, today resigned as Health Minister, MP for Labis and from all party posts with immediate effect. [Bernama]
I still believe that he shouldn’t resign under this circumstance. As mentioned at my earlier post, Chua’s resigning is indirectly surrendering to the real culprits by approving that privacy invasion (secret recording) is the right thing to do.
No credits to Chua for stepping down and leaving everything behind. It is easy for him to abandon everything now; it would be tougher to stand on his feet and face the crisis instead of giving up so soon, which he should… he chose the easier path.
My hope now is that the people behind the sex DVD could be brought to justice. However, considering the possible political agenda behind the whole scandal… I wonder if the cops would be doing their best to find the culprits.
[Update] - MCA accepts Chua resignation [Malaysiakini]
Some thoughts from other bloggers regarding Chua’s resignation…
The grave sins of Chua Soi Lek
Honesty is such a lonely world
Chua soi lek resigns just about every damn thing
So much smoke, Lulu’s not able to see clearly
Of the only crime here is intrusion of privacy
Was Chua Soi Lek victim of double betrayal?
Chua did the honourable thing (I don’t agree, obviously)
Health Minister Chua Soi Lek openly admitted that he was the person featured in a video depicting a man having sex with a woman purportedly in a hotel room.
Copies of the pornographic videotape were widely distributed in Johor in DVD format over the last few days; but despite his admission of guilt over the matter, Dr Chua stressed that he would not resign from his government and party positions. [Malaysiakini and Bernama]
Adultery is a shameful act regardless of how influential the person is. It doesn’t matter if Chua is the health minister or a janitor; what matter is that he is a husband and a father… and what he did was hurting his wife and his family… it’s a very irresponsible act.
However, the people behind the sex tape are even worse. It is a serious violation of privacy, it’s against the law, and it served no purpose that concerned national interest.
If these people could have install spy-cam to trap Chua, what makes the public think that they won’t up their ante to secretly record sex tape of legit couple and make it into porno (for profit, whatever) instead? It could be a hotel this time… but who can guarantee that they won’t be installing the spy cam at your home next round? The culprits must be brought into justice.
Asking Chua Soi Lek to resign is indirectly approving that making the sex tape is the right thing to do. What Chua did is a disgrace, but it’s not the right time for him to step down… not under this circumstance.
Besides, if his wife and family have chosen to forgive him… it’s actually none of our business.
Update - Chua resigns from all posts.
