After the splendid sunrise at Penanjakan, we went to the foothill of Mt Bromo, hopped on one of the horses for a 10 minutes uphill ride and conquered the 250+ steps staircase to catch a glimpse of the sleepy volcano from close range…
Didn’t stay long at the top; the gas was choking and stinky. A few more pics of the stairway to heaven, the observation deck and the panorama…
The horse ride
The scene was pretty chaotic when we arrived at the foothill (at the beginning); there’s obviously more supply than demand, and the horsemen were swarming the tourists trying to make their only business of the day. Our driver-guide took care of the matters, and we got our horses after a couple of frenzied minutes.
I was the heaviest in my group, but somehow the horsemen decided to let me rode on the smallest horse instead. It’s only my second horse ride; in fact I’m not sure if I’ve done it before… it’s a vague childhood memory.
It’s pretty scary at first, but it’s ok when I got into the rhythm; and the horseman was guiding the horse in front anyway. Ended up a very nice experience to add into my diary; hope that I didn’t burden the little pony too much lol.
