Biography
Charice Pempengco, better known simply as Charice, started singing at the age of four.
She took part in some 80 singing competitions since the age of seven before making her first breakthrough at 13 in 2005, when she finished third on Little Big Star, an American Idol like talent show in the Philippines.
Charice’s performances were uploaded online by her fan and received millions of hits, which led to her appearance on Korean variety show Star King; she didn’t waste the chance and wowed the audiences with her powerful performances.
Again, Charice’s videos were uploaded online by her fans and gone completely viral, making her a global internet sensation. Her talent then caught the attention of legendary American music producer David Foster, who decided to mentor her into an international superstar.
Charice was then introduced to the US audiences via The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show etc. Oprah in particular was mesmerised by her voice and pledged her support for Charice’s singing career.
Charice’s international fame continued to boom with her guest-performances alongside big names like Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli etc. She’s also involved in Foster’s tribute album Hit Man: David Foster & Friends.
Back in the Philippines, Charice released her debut self-titled solo album in May 2008 with great success. Her subsequent album My Inspiration was released a year later and is a hit as well. She held her first solo concert in late June 2009.
Charice released her debut English single, Note to God in May 2009 during her third appearances on Oprah’s show. Her first English album is scheduled to be released in January 2010.
Charice is also acknowledged for her charity work despite her young age.
