The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Okinawa, Japan, is the world’s second largest aquarium behind the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, USA. It’s one of the very few aquariums in the world that keep whale sharks in cavity.

Video of Kuroshio Sea, the largest tank in the aquarium; shot by Canadian filmmaker Jon Rawlinson. Mesmerising stuff; I can watch this for hours…

Edushi, 3D China city maps

Developed by Aladdin Infotech, Edushi (lit. E-Metropolis in Chinese) is a website which provides 3D maps of the main cities in China. The main page is in Chinese, but there’s a few places with English version as well, Hong Kong for example.

Looks cool, Sim City (PC game) fans will like it for sure. Unfortunately it doesn’t provide much advantage over 2D maps; and it’s probably easier to navigate the traditional two dimensional maps.

The song is just ok, but the MV super cool. The cast were selected from actual Sour fan base around the world; and each person and scene was filmed purely via webcam and stitched together to make the awesome video…

Paperclips dance on train floor

Paperclips dancing under the influence of electromagnetic field on the floor of a Kobe train in Japan; the effect is produced by the electric current that drives the motors located under the floor…

Although harmless to human body, the magnetic field could damage electronic devices left on the floor. The train company is installing extra shielding on these trains as countermeasures for the issue.

Steven Purugganan is an 11-year-old Filipino-American who holds the world record for all five categories (three individuals, two teams) of sport stacking.

Life-size Gundam in Odaiba, Tokyo

A life-sized 18m Gundam model was assembled at Odaiba Island in Tokyo to mark the 30th anniversary of “Mobile Suit Gundam”, the very first Gundam anime series which evolved into a highly successful franchise over the years…

The real scale Gundam can do a few simple tricks, no big deal… but the details of the model itself is still pretty impressive.

The Gundam is going to be displayed for only two months unfortunately, it could turn to be Tokyo’s new tourist attraction if it’s kept for a much longer period.

Cold Stone Creamery, an ice-cream parlor franchise from Arizona, USA, is known for its mix-ins and lively service culture where the workers would sing a tune or two when tipped by the customers.

Tipping is not common in Asia though; so I guess the staff would probably sing along whenever they feel like it. Sharing some videos of the staff in action from Cold Stone Creamery outlets in Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan…

The 7.2 metres robot was on of the biggest attractions of Roppongi Art Night (2009) in Tokyo, Japan. Not really sure what the designer means, but a fire spitting giant robot in real action is always a win in any events…

Sung Sot Cave, Halong Bay, Vietnam

Sung Sot Cave (Cave of Surprises) is the largest and arguably the most beautiful cave in Halong Bay, Vietnam. The cave is located at the Bo Hon Island and got its name (grotte des surprises) from a French admiral who was surprised at how huge and majestic the cave was when he discovered it.

The limestone cave is now heavily developed for tourism, with granite pavements and coloured-lighting beautifying the cave. The nature elements of the cave seems pretty well preserved though, hopefully the in-flock of tourists won’t cause too much harm.

Photos from my July 2008 visit, including an aerial view of the iconic Bo Hon Bay which often featured on travel magazines and postcards…
