Kanpei Earth MarathonKanpei Earth Marathon is a project by 61-year-old Japanese comedian Kanpei Hazama to run and sail around the world, with the aims to see and feel the earth with his whole body and soul, and to reach out to people who share the living on this planet.

Kanpei began his journey eastward from Japan in December 2008 and has been moving almost everyday – about 8-10 hours daily (50km per day if running). He’s expected to complete the journey by March 2011, which will see him running 13,000 miles and sailing 10,000 miles.

His journey was being frequently updated on the project’s official site [Jp] and its official Youtube channel. At the time of writing he has completed his 629th day of running and has reached the west of China.

South Korean first woman to conquer top 14 peaks

South Korean Oh Eun-sun became the first woman to conquer the world’s top 14 peaks after reaching the top of Annapurna in Nepal on Tuesday.

There are 14 independent peaks on earth over 8,000m above sea level (referred to as the Eight-Thousanders). Italian Reinhold Messner was the first to reach all the peaks in 1986. A total of 20 men and woman have completed the feat.

There are still some questions over Oh’s record though, as there’s dispute on whether the 44-year-old Korean has reached one of the tops in 2009.

French ‘Spiderman’ conquered Petronas Towers finally

Alain Robert, nicknamed Spiderman, climbed successfully to the top of Malaysia’s iconic 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers on September 1…

The 46-year-old Frenchman is famous for scaling skyscrapers and famous architectures across the world, without safety equipments.

This was Robert’s third attempt to conquer the 452m Petronas Towers, formerly the world’s tallest building. He made the first attempt in 1997, and the second a decade later; both climbs were thwarted by authorities on the 60th floor.

He was subsequently arrested and fined RM2000 (~USD567) for illegal trespassing.

Kiwi skateboards 12,159km from Europe to China

New Zealander Robert Thompson set out from Leysin, Switzerland on June 24, 2007 and embarked on a 12,159km journey of solo and unsupported trek by skateboard through Europe, USA, and across China.

His journey was completed in Shanghai on September 28, 2008 [via Shanghaiist]

Rob has unofficially broken the Guinness World Record for the ‘longest journey by skateboard’ currently hold by by Dave Cornthwaite with a distance of 5,823km. Rob’s attempt has been submitted to Guinness and is currently under evaluation.

BASE jumping in Kuala Lumpur

BASE is the acronym for Building, Antenna, Span and Earth… the categories of fixed objects that are usual jumping platforms for this extreme sport. [more on Wiki]

KLITJ is becoming a popular event for BASE jumpers around the world; the annual event is moving into its seventh edition in 2008. Besides the 421m KL Tower, the jumping sessions are now extended to a few other locations across the country.
