Oppai ga Ippai (おっぱいがいっぱい), literally ‘full of breast’ in Japanese, is a popular children song in Japan (at least in the 80s), singing praise to mama’s breast (milk).
One of the wackiest music videos I’ve ever seen; call me an idiot, but I laughed from the beginning till the end… couldn’t resist, it’s just too funny, cute and weird.
Japanese lyrics and English translation available on Yojinbo.
Hatsuyo Sugawara, a 44 year-old Japanese woman, won the 23rd Wanko-soba National Tournament that was held in Morioka City on Sunday (Nov 10) after eating 383 ‘bowls’ of soba noodles in 10 minutes.
Wanko-soba is a famous delicacy in Japan’s Iwate Prefecture; contrary to most soba dishes, wanko-soba is served in small portion… roughly 10-15 bowls of wanko-soba make up a standard bowl of soba.
The contestants had 15 mins to eat as much as they could… Hatsuya’s time was reduced to 10 mins as handicap for being the reigning champ; but she still managed to defend her title rather easily… [via Japantoday and Japanprobe]
Obama, a small seaside city in Japan, is celebrating Barack Obama’s victory in the 2008 US presidential election…
Obama (小浜) means ‘little beach/shore’ in Japanese.
The small city in Fukui Prefecture, with an estimated population of 32k, has been garnering plenty of media attention around the world for namesake reason since Barack Obama announced his intention to run for presidency in early 2007.
Obama city is hopeful that Obama’s victory would boost their tourism and economy; the number of visitors has increased by 20% since the Obama-Obama link was heavily publicised in the media last year.
Hallyu stars are dominating the Japanese Oricon singles chart for the past two weeks. The Koreans claimed the top three spots at the singles’ sales chart last week, and keeping their momentum with three of the top four spots this week.
Pop group TVXQ (known as Tōhōshinki in Japan) tops the singles’ sales chart for two consecutive weeks with their 24th Japanese single “Jumon-Mirotic”. This is their 4th chart topping Japanese single in 2008.
Actor turn singer Lee Byung-hun claims the 2nd spot also for two weeks in a role with his debut single, “Itsuka”; while Ryu Si-won dropping from 3rd to 4th with his 8th single “Kimito Boku”.
To be frank, I’m quite puzzled how the songs managed to lead the charts. I can understand that Mirotic is appealing to some audiences (although not to my liking), but the other two are just so average. Anyhow, sharing all three music videos below…
“Eat You Up” is a dance hit by Angie Gold which was hugely popular in 1980s especially in Asia because of the covers by Japanese pop star Yōko Oginome and Hong Kong star Priscilla Chan.
I never knew the song title though… happened to bound in to this music video while searching about Korean pop star BoA’s American debut with a song of the same title.
Sharing all three music videos below (from Angie, Yoko and Priscilla); pretty catchy song and some ‘interesting’ 80s’ fashions and dance moves…
Music video collection of Japanese singer-songwriter YUI. The Fukuoka-born star made her professional debut in 2004; her music career started off reasonably well, but not really an instant hit… but she gradually build her fame and is now one of the most popular female artists in Japan.
Good-bye Days
YUI’s breakthrough came in 2006 with “Good-bye Days”, which was used as the theme song for movie “Midnight Sun” (Taiyou no Uta) in which she played the leading role…
YUI actually received the best newcomer award from Japan Academy Prize, but she didn’t wander much into acting, and the movie is the only film she has made so far.
“Koko ni Iru yo” (ここにいるよ - I’m Right Here) is a Japanese song by SoulJa (not to be confused with American entertainer Soulja Boy) featuring Thelma Aoyama. The lyrics and its melodic tunes (and also the MV itself) created lots of echoes from those who are in long distance relationship.
English subbed music video of Koko ni Iru yo (the MV actress is not Aoyama btw)…
Naomi Yotsumoto is currently one of the most talk-about Japanese ping-pong players, not just for her skills, but mainly for her fashion and style during the games…
