The 46-year-old Frenchman is famous for scaling skyscrapers and famous architectures across the world, without safety equipments.

This was Robert’s third attempt to conquer the 452m Petronas Towers, formerly the world’s tallest building. He made the first attempt in 1997, and the second a decade later; both climbs were thwarted by authorities on the 60th floor.

He was subsequently arrested and fined RM2000 (~USD567) for illegal trespassing.

Hong Kong tabloid “East Week” has published photos of superstar Andy Lau and his rumoured Malaysian girlfriend Carol Chu having lunch at a restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. This is the first time the paparazzi has managed to snap (and publish) pictures of the rumoured couple together…

The magazine claimed that Andy and Carol will tie the knots in coming April after 24 years into relationship. The marriage rumour is nothing new; it has been brought up once in a while for more than a decade, but was denied by Andy… in fact he has never publicly admitted the relationship.

Andy has yet to respond on the photos; there’s some hints though, that the latest rumour might be true (at last lol)… as Andy has recently changed his tone regarding this matter, becoming more ambiguous as opposed to the usual strong denial.

It’s said that the couple will hold their wedding at a venue at Berjaya Times Square in KL, the same place where Carol’s sister held her wedding in 2008 in which Andy was rumoured to have attended. There are also rumours that the wedding will be held at an island-resort in Malaysia to avoid the frenzied media.

Notice how many “rumours” I’ve used to write this article? Well, hopefully I don’t have to use the word again for their relationship in near future.

[update] Carol Chu gets Andy Lau’s public recognition at last.

Taking lesson from last year’s Avril Lavigne’s concert which was almost cancelled because her show was deemed too sexy for Malaysian culture (and the fact that Avril is like an angel to Rihanna’s sexiness), the organiser of Rihanna’s concert is fast to act on the issue before the protests from conservative religious groups could heat up.

Rihanna’s KL concert, which is part of the Good Girl Gone Bad world tour, will be held at Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, on Feb 13. Refer to the above poster for ticketing details.

Update – The concert is postponed following reports that she was assaulted by her boyfriend Chris Brown.

The news was broke loose by a blogger and passed on to various forums, including the popular LYN which prompted the hectic ‘hunt’ for her where-about via the photos she posted on her online diary.

While most of the forum comments were made for the lulz; some of the folks seemed to take the manhunt a bit too seriously… regardless, the search ended hours later when it was found out that Hirano was already back to Japan when the search party was started… lol, an epic fail which provides the final bit of 2008 entertainment for Malaysian netizens.

On side note, that’s a really cute picture of Aya Hirano in a traditional Malay costume. Forget about bikinis… do more traditional stuff instead :)

The restaurant’s signature dish is a creation of its own… the gai wo bao (鸡窝包 – literally chicken nest bun) which is basically a combo of two popular dim sum dishes i.e. the loh mai gai (糥米鸡 – chicken glutonous rice) and chicken bun.

To be frank, I am not a fan… it’s a clever idea, but the taste just doesn’t click for me. My sister kinda love it though; and judging from their business, lots of the folks seem to like it too.

These days almost all dim sum restaurants in the Sri Petaling area is selling this chicken nest bun, but Clan Restaurant is still the most popular place for the dish… originality still matters obviously.

For KL folks, the address of the restaurant… 140, Jalan Radin Anum, Sri Petaling.

Pig innard congee, takeout from a shop in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur

The pig innards congee in Hong Kong is a bit different from those we have in Malaysia. The pork innards (liver, kidney, intestine, lungs, stomach etc.) in Hong Kong are normally cooked fresh with the congee, whereas in Malaysia the innards are pre-cooked and seasoned before adding into the congee.

Both style has its pros and cons… but the essence of the congee is with the rice porridge itself. The smoothness and thickness of the congee is often more dictating than the pork innards. The one I had in the photo for example was a bit too watery.

Chinese and some other Asians are quite accustomed to this dish, but westerners might take this as one of those bizarre food adventure.

It’s official, Avril’s KL concert is on. The Malaysian authority has changed their mind with the earlier decision to bar the Canadian pop star from performing in Kuala Lumpur on August 29th.

Avril has told MTV earlier that the concert will go ahead as planned; and there were other sources hinting that Galaxy Group, the concert promoter, has successfully appeal to the initial ban. It has now been officially confirmed that the show will go on.

Earlier this week, Malaysian authority made the call to bar Avril from performing as scheduled, stating that the concert is unsuitable for Malaysian culture, particularly not when the country is celebrating independence day on August 31st.

The decision echoed the call from an Islamic opposition party for the show to be scrapped, that the show is considered too sexy for Malaysians and would promote the wrong values as Malaysia’s independence day is looming near.

It’s almost deja vu for Malaysians… as the authority had barred Indonesian singer Inul Daratista from performing in late July 2008 following similar protest that her performance was too erotic. Luckily for Avril’s fans, Galaxy has managed to appeal for the concert to run as planned.

Do mind that Malaysians in general are not that conservative; in fact lots of the Muslims are quite liberal in these kind of matters. Unfortunately the men that make the initial decision were not quite as open minded… glad that the final decision makers are showing more sense.

World Drums Festival 2008 is running from July 26 to August 2 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event was first held in December 2007, and it seems like the Malaysian organisers are keen to make it an annual show.

World Drums Festival showcases traditional (and fusion) drum-shows from around the world. The 2008 series features performers from Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Venezuela. Not really covering every part of the world yet, but it’s an international show nonetheless, and a pretty good one.

Went to a road show at Berjaya Times Square on Wednesday with KC and took some pics; photo quality rather poor due to dim lighting and my limited photography skills…

I used to like Avril a lot; if she was to have a concert here a couple of years ago I won’t hesitate to get a VIP ticket for the show… but now, I am not sure. Hmmm got to think fast, considering her popularity here (and some neighbouring countries), the nice seats could be sold out pretty soon.

Avril’s world tour will kick start on August 1st in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; the KL concert will be her first stop in Asia. Other Asian countries that are part of the tour include Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and China [check schedule]

There are 11 concerts in Japan, more than USA and Canada combined (10)… never knew that she is that popular in the land of the rising sun.
