Chinese music video of “Belong” (属於 – Shu Yu) by Malaysian singer Fish Leong; it’s the theme song for Taiwanese drama “I Do?”, starring Blue Lan and Annie Liu. A nice song, but very plain music video…
Barbadian R&B star Rihanna has promised to cover up for her Kuala Lumpur concert on February 13th to adhere to the Malaysian on-stage dress code, of which a female performer must be covered from shoulders to knees.

Taking lesson from last year’s Avril Lavigne’s concert which was almost cancelled because her show was deemed too sexy for Malaysian culture (and the fact that Avril is like an angel to Rihanna’s sexiness), the organiser of Rihanna’s concert is fast to act on the issue before the protests from conservative religious groups could heat up.
Rihanna’s KL concert, which is part of the Good Girl Gone Bad world tour, will be held at Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, on Feb 13. Refer to the above poster for ticketing details.
Update – The concert is postponed following reports that she was assaulted by her boyfriend Chris Brown.
Malaysian otakus had made an epic hunt on New Year Eve for Japanese star Aya Hirano when it was discovered that the popular seiyu (voice actress) was in Kuala Lumpur for some filming and photo-shooting.
The news was broke loose by a blogger and passed on to various forums, including the popular LYN which prompted the hectic ‘hunt’ for her where-about via the photos she posted on her online diary.
While most of the forum comments were made for the lulz; some of the folks seemed to take the manhunt a bit too seriously… regardless, the search ended hours later when it was found out that Hirano was already back to Japan when the search party was started… lol, an epic fail which provides the final bit of 2008 entertainment for Malaysian netizens.
On side note, that’s a really cute picture of Aya Hirano in a traditional Malay costume. Forget about bikinis… do more traditional stuff instead :)
Michael Wong, better known as Guang Liang, is a Malaysian singer-songwriter who enjoys great popularity in Chinese community around the world.
Michael made his debut in 1995 with Victor Wong as a duo group and became popular pretty soon across Asia. The duo broke up in 2000 to pursue their solo career; and it didn’t take long for Michael to re-establish himself as one of the top Chinese artists.
First Time
“First Time” (第一次) was a hit song in Michael’s solo debut album “Michael’s First Album”… all the songs below are written by Michael. The lyrics for First Time is by Zhang Tian Cheng; MV actress is Hsiao Shu Shen, a top Taiwanese model back then…
Harper’s Bazaar magazine (Chinese edition) held their sixth annual charity gala in Beijing last Friday (Aug 22) with the attendance of some 300 celebrities, including A-list stars like Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi and former UK’s Prime Minister Tony Blair etc.
The 2008 gala managed to raise 10.35 million Yuan (~USD1.5 million) which will be channelled to the relief work in quake-hit areas in Sichuan province.

It’s official, Avril’s KL concert is on. The Malaysian authority has changed their mind with the earlier decision to bar the Canadian pop star from performing in Kuala Lumpur on August 29th.
Avril has told MTV earlier that the concert will go ahead as planned; and there were other sources hinting that Galaxy Group, the concert promoter, has successfully appeal to the initial ban. It has now been officially confirmed that the show will go on.
Earlier this week, Malaysian authority made the call to bar Avril from performing as scheduled, stating that the concert is unsuitable for Malaysian culture, particularly not when the country is celebrating independence day on August 31st.
The decision echoed the call from an Islamic opposition party for the show to be scrapped, that the show is considered too sexy for Malaysians and would promote the wrong values as Malaysia’s independence day is looming near.
It’s almost deja vu for Malaysians… as the authority had barred Indonesian singer Inul Daratista from performing in late July 2008 following similar protest that her performance was too erotic. Luckily for Avril’s fans, Galaxy has managed to appeal for the concert to run as planned.
Do mind that Malaysians in general are not that conservative; in fact lots of the Muslims are quite liberal in these kind of matters. Unfortunately the men that make the initial decision were not quite as open minded… glad that the final decision makers are showing more sense.
The third season of The Amazing Race Asia (TARA) is set to premier on September 11 on AXN-Asia. The franchisee of the popular US reality TV show is growing in popularity across Asia since making its debut in late 2006 and is back for good.

The 6th annual MTV Asia Awards was held last Saturday (Aug 2) at Arena of Stars in Genting, Malaysia. I watched the delayed telecast at home… a decent show.
Don’t bother too much about the results though; their awards have always been dubious and it seems like the ‘tradition’ will continue to be preserved…
