Nike World Cup ad curse
One of the most popular commercials during the FIFA World Cup period is Nike’s Write The Future, which starred (supposedly) some of the world’s top football players. Publicity wise it’s a huge success; but the CF would also be remembered for the epic failure of the featured stars, as if there’s a curse cast upon them…
Didier Drogba (Côte d’Ivoire), Frank Ribery (France) and Fabio Cannavaro (Italy) stumbled at group stage; while Wayne Rooney (England) and his ex Manchester United mate Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) were stopped at last 16.
Cesc Fabregas still has a chance to play in the semis, but like in the commercial he’s playing just a cameo part for the Spanish team. And Ronaldinho amazingly wasn’t even picked for the Brazilian squad.
To complete the wheel of misfortune, tennis ace Roger Federer who made a small appearance also crashed out of the Wimbledon Open in the quarter final. The only one lucky enough to escape the curse is Homer Simpson. D’oh!
