Bongeunsa Temple, Seoul, South Korea

Bongeunsa (봉은사) is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Korea. It’s founded in 794 and gone through difficult times as Buddhism was repressed for a long period in Korean history (it’s now the biggest religion though).

Bongeunsa is also one of the few temples in Seoul that offers short term temple-stay program which is pretty popular among foreigners.

Deoksugung Palace royal guard-changing ceremony

Went to Deoksugung Palace again two weeks ago to see the royal guard-changing ceremony, a re-enactment of the traditional royal practise. The show was cancelled during my first visit because of extreme cold weather.

The location I stood at wasn’t ideal for photoshoot, facing their backside most of the time lol. Still, here’s a few pics that’s worth a look…

Deoksugung, or Deoksu Palace, was the main palace of the short-lived Great Han Empire (1897-1910). Visited the place on Friday (Jan 15) in hope to watch the Guard Changing ceremony, which was unfortunately called off due to the weather.

Still an enthralling walk with all the snow around; I tried not to look overexcited, but my heart was screaming in joy like a little boy lol. The ancient architecture + modern skyscrapers + snow made a good photo combination ain’t so?

Been busy for the past week making arrangement for my next travel plan… to Seoul, South Korea. It’s going to be my longest trip ever, close to three months in the country, just within the stay limit without needing a visa.

Ice fishing at Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival

Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival is an annual winter festival in Hwacheon county, South Korea, which attracts over a million visitors each year.

The 7th edition of the festival is held on January 10-19 in 2009; as usual the highlight of the festival is ice fishing for Sancheoneo (cherry salmon), a mountain trout species found primarily in north-eastern Asia.

Besides fishing, the frozen Hwacheongang River also plays host to ice/snow sledding, snow castle/sculpture, bobsleigh, ice tubing, ice soccer, ice skating and other winter recreation activities [Sancheoneo Festival's official website]

Jackie Chan and Choi Ji-woo to promote Hallyuwood

International star Jackie Chan and Korean actress Choi Ji-woo have been chosen as honorary ambassadors of Hallyuwood, a Korean entertainment based theme park in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.

Both Jackie and Choi attended the ground breaking ceremony on May 29, alongside some other famous stars like Kim Yun-jin, Kim Ah-jong and Jewelry etc.

Family house of Korean star becoming tourist spot

The family house of Korean pop star Ryu Shi-won is becoming a tourist spot, according to KBS news.

A Japanese travel agency has introduced a package in liaison with the star which includes a visit to his family house in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province.

Tourists can see beautiful sceneries and experience traditional Korean culture during the tour. Ryu’s fans should be particularly enjoying it as Ryu’s mother will personally cook Korean dishes for them and tell stories from the star’s childhood.
