The 21st Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) kicked off Saturday (Oct 18) with Japanese prime minister Taro Aso among the ~300 guests that graced the opening event at Roppongi Hills [via Japantoday]
The theme of TIFF 2008 is “Ecology = Preservation of Earth’s Environment”, and the organiser replaced the usual red carpet with a green carpet made from recycled plastic bottles to exemplify the theme, which I doubt could bring any meaningful effect.
A total of 315 films from around the world will be shown during the nine-day event. Chinese movie “Red Cliff”, directed by Hong Kong director John Woo, was selected to kick start the screening; would be cute if the stars wore some green outfit during the green carpet to echo the theme lol.

Hong Kong showbiz couple Tony Leung and Carina Lau have tied their knots in a Buddhist inspired ceremony in Paro, Bhutan on July 21.
The wedding was attended by Bhutan’s royalty and celebrities-friends like Kenny B, Cecilia Yip, Brigette Lin and Chang Chen etc. The press were not invited to the wedding, but the couple was considerate enough to release some of their wedding photos to the media…

Hong Kong celebrity couple Tony Leung and Carina Lau is getting married after 19-years into relationship. The couple hinted about their marriage a few months ago, but never released much details to the public… leaving plenty of rooms for speculations.

The hottest rumour is that they would tie their knots on July 21 in a private wedding ceremony; while another suggests that the wedding would be held in October with truck-load of celebrity guests.
Wedding in Bhutan?
While July 21 seems almost certain as wedding date, the venue for the wedding is still a relative mystery… rumours shifted from Bali to a private island in Thailand, and now to Bhutan.
It’s reported that one of the invited guests, veteran entertainer Eric Tsang, has confirmed the location to be in Bhutan… so, it could very well be a perfect guess this time.
Both Tony and Carina are devoted Buddhist… and Bhutan, being a Buddhist country, seems like a logical choice for their wedding venue.
Besides, Bhutan is famous for its strict regulations on foreign visitors, which sounds like another good reasons to have celebrity weddings there… Tony and Carina won’t need to worry much about paparazzi, as unwanted media would find it difficult to be granted entries during that period.
Regardless of dates and venue, it’s good to see them getting married finally. Congrats.

Over 500 Chinese artists joined hands in a fundraising concert on June 1 in Hong Kong and managed to collect close to HK$35 millions (~ USD4.5mil) for the Chinese quake victims.
The 8-hour-marathon-concert was initiated by Hong Kong pop star Andy Lau as part of the “Artistes 512″ fund raising campaign, and was participated by artists from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, including big names like Jackie Chan, Stephen Chow, Leon Lai, Jacky Cheung, Tony Leung, Jay Chou, A-mei, Kelly Chen, Sammi Cheng, Lin Chi Ling, Sun Nan and Ritchie Ren etc.

Jiufen (or Jioufen) is a small town in northern Taiwan famous for its nostalgic old street, food and ocean view. Jiufen was a prosperous gold mining town since 1890s but its popularity faded as the gold resource was depleting since 1950s.
Jiufen was given a new life in 1989 when award winning movie “A City of Sadness” (directed by Hou Hsiao Hsien and starred Tony Leung etc.) was filmed there. Jiufen has become a popular tourist spot since then and a favourite weekend getaway location for Taipei folks.
