Obama, a small seaside city in Japan, is celebrating Barack Obama’s victory in the 2008 US presidential election…
Obama (小浜) means ‘little beach/shore’ in Japanese.
The small city in Fukui Prefecture, with an estimated population of 32k, has been garnering plenty of media attention around the world for namesake reason since Barack Obama announced his intention to run for presidency in early 2007.
Obama city is hopeful that Obama’s victory would boost their tourism and economy; the number of visitors has increased by 20% since the Obama-Obama link was heavily publicised in the media last year.
Coffee gets hotter in America. Drive-through coffee stands with bikini clad baristas are making waves in some American cities for the past year or two…
The concept is going to get some backslash for sure. Belfare, Washington, is the first township barring these sexpresso’s stands from business… I guess it’s just a matter of time before other places following their suit.
It’s probably not a problem if one or two coffee stands are getting sexier, but it’s obviously inappropriate when it’s becoming a trend. Imagine having a sexpresso stand at every corner of the streets… that would be like heaven kinda disturbing.
I have to be honest though… if I’m in US, I won’t mind at all to visit one of these coffee stands; and I could become a regular customer if their coffee doesn’t sux. Sex sells… and it almost never failed.
Korean actress Lee Hana performed a few songs at the Grand Mint Festival 2008 on October 18 at Seoul Olympic Park in what should be her first stage performance since making her professional acting debut [via K-popped]
The 26-year-old actress is known for her musical capability. Her farther is a composer, and she studied music in university. She once said in an interview that she thought she would become a singer, but somehow started off as an actress (which she is doing pretty well anyway).
Lee Hana did show her singing talent on a few occasions in variety shows and in TV dramas, but this is probably the first time she sang in a public event at such level. I guess she was covering some songs from other artists because she has not released an album yet.
Sharing a couple of videos below… the first one is said to be Hana’s performance at her graduation ceremony, covering “Be Be Your Love” by Rachael Yamagata; while the second a short snippet of her singing in Korean drama “When Spring Comes”…

“Love Story”, latest music video from Korean pop star Rain.
Nothing special, but a nice song nonetheless.
Portugal has officially launched the world’s first commercial wave power project on September 23. The Agucadoura Wave Park, developed by Scottish firm Pelamis, was supposed to launch in 2007 but was delayed by an underwater connection issue.
The first phase of the project cost about 9 million Euros and generates power using 3 Pelamis Wave Energy Converters (PWEC) which are semi-submerged, articulated structures composed of cylindrical sections linked by hinged joints and are located approximately 3 miles off the coast.
The second phase of the project will install a further 25 PWEC and bring the total capacity up to 21MW, which will be able to meet the average annual electricity demand for more than 15,000 Portuguese households while displacing more than 60,000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide emissions from conventional power plants.
Video below shows how the PWEC works…
UK will be the next to embrace the wave power with the Orcadian Wave Farm in northern Scotland and the Westwave project in Cornwall, southwestern England.
