At least 20 people have been injured (minor injuries mostly) following an escalator failure in Japan a few days ago. The freak accident happened at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition centre where the Summer Wonder Festival was held.

The Tokyo Wonder Festival is a biannual event which showcases figurines and garage-kits which attracts thousands of visitors each time. The escalator, which was supposed to be ascending, couldn’t support the weight of the massive crowd and succumbed to gravity instead, causing the chaos.
