LG begins sales of world’s first curved OLED TV

LG Electronics has announced that it will begin accepting pre-orders for its Curved OLED TV in Korea, making them the world’s first company to commercialised the product.

It’s said that the curved screen can provide “IMAX-like” viewing experience; and the entire screen surface is equidistant from the viewer’s eyes, eliminating the problem of screen-edge visual distortion and loss of detail.

The 55-inch TV doesn’t come cheap, priced at 15 million won (~US$13,700) per piece.

Apple iPhone 4S Siri

Apple has unveiled its “new” iPhone, the iPhone 4S – with a new processor, better camera, and the Siri voice system which acts like “a personal assistant”…

The artificial intelligence of Siri seems amazing in the commercial video, but I’m suspecting that it’s exaggerated; and its service zone should be very limited at the moment even if the software is as intelligent as shown. Every long journey begins with one small step though, got to give the feature a bit of credit.

The later part of the video gives me giggles. I know I’m the one who’s from stone age, but I can never understand people’s tendency to send a message instead of calling… and “speaking to the phone” to send a message is just stupid. Just call.

Japan’s Ikaros solar sail flew by Venus

The IKAROS solar sail which was deployed by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in June 2011 has flew by Venus on December 8, marking the success of the world’s first demonstration of a solar power sail in space.

As its name indicates (Interplanetary Kite-craft Accelerated by Radiation Of the Sun), IKAROS is a kite-like spacecraft which is powered by radiation pressure in interplanetary space – a method which will be useful for future space exploration within the solar system in many ways, and with possibility of doing things at much lower cost.
