Ayumi Hamasaki claims consecutive #1 record by a Japanese female artist

Ayumi Hamasaki L single albumJ-pop star Ayumi Hamasaki has smashed the record for consecutive best selling single by a female artist in Japan.

Ayu’s latest single L is her 25th consecutive #1 since Free & Easy in 2002, smashing a 22-year-old record previously held by Matsuda Seiko. Ayumi also holds the record for most #1 singles for a female artist with 37 in total. Congratulations.

The overall record is held by rock duo B’z with 43 #1 singles consecutively.
