Beckii Cruel, a 14-year-old British who rose to internet fame in Japan dancing to J-pop and anime songs in her videos, is forming a girls group Beckii Cruel feat. Cruel Angels and set to release their debut Japanese CD in February.
There’s always a niche market for Western girls in Japanese entertainment (Leah Dizon, Suzanne etc.). Beckii has released a DVD in late 2009 which did ok; the two other members for the new project are Sara (18) and Gemma (16).
Their debut single is titled Tsubasa wo Kudasai, literally Please Wings, a typical J-pop electro-bubblegum song which actually sounds pretty decent. The first two minutes of the MV probably makes a decent tourism promotional video.
[update] Full MV removed because of copyright claims; sharing a teaser instead…
Amazing what internet can do these days. Some European teenagers (who probably can’t understand much Japanese) becoming professional singers in a foreign land all because of some homemade videos. Good luck girls.
