Besides “You and Me” the official theme song, there are a dozen of two other theme songs that are endorsed by the Beijing Games organiser. I have shared “Beijing Welcomes You” and “Olympics in Beijing” previously; here are a few more that’s worth mentioning…
Sun Nan & Zhang Hui Mei – Forever Friends
“Forever Friends” (永远的朋友), composed by Italian composer Giorgio Moroder and Chinese pianist Kong Xiangdong. The English lyrics are helped by Michael Kunze, while Chinese lyrics by Huang Xiaosheng.
This is my favourite candidate for the official theme song. Moroder, having wrote the popular “Hand in Hand” (theme song for Seoul Olympics 1988), certainly understand what makes a good theme song. It might not be the nicest song among all, but I think it’s the best that fits the occasion.
Sharing here is the Chinese version sang by Chinese singer Sun Nan and Taiwanese star Zhang Hui Mei; the English version is sang by Sun Nan and Hong Kong singer Coco Lee…
We Are Ready
“We Are Ready”, sang by over 130 artists and was used as the theme song for the one-year countdown event. Composed by Peter Kam and lyrics by Keith Chan.
Sharing here is a fan-made video that features pictures and computer generated images of the game venues…
Jay Chou – Qian Shan Wan Shui
“Qian Shan Wan Shui” (千山万水) by Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou; composed by himself and lyrics by Fang Wen Shan. The song title is a famous Chinese proverb which literally means ‘thousand of mountains and tens of thousands of streams’… normally used to describe a tough journey.
They didn’t make an official music video for the song; the below MV is the KTV version made mostly by using clips from Jay’s previous concert preparation…
Jang Nara – Our Dreams
“Our Dreams” (我们的梦想), a simple Chinese song (with some surprising twist in the middle) sang by Korean star Jang Nara, featuring famous opera singer Liao Changyong. The video quality is a bit poor, tune down your speaker a bit…
Stand Up – The One Man Olympics
“Stand Up” (站起来), sang by Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan, Singaporean Stefanie Sun, US born Wang Lee Hom, and Han Hong from mainland China.
The song is the theme song for Olympic movie “The One Man Olympics”, which is based on the real story of China’s first Olympian Liu Changchun who participated in the 1932 Olympics in US…
