Charice’s botox saga refuses to die down

August 15, 2010 by Yein Jee

Flipina singer Charice PempengcoCharice’s botox saga is still talk of the town a month after her botox injection – a common cosmetic procedure to tighten the skin and reduce ageing effect.

The controversy begun in mid July when the Filipina teenage singer admitted that she’s having botox to prepare for her appearance in drama series Glee.

The statement itself left plenty of rooms for interpretation. Her reps responded that it was for medical purpose to relieve pain from a jaw problem, but many have already chosen to believe that it’s for beautification purpose instead.

Her case has led to plenty of debates about the worrying trend of teenagers and young adults undergoing botox treatments and cosmetic surgeries. And Charice’s name are brought up on almost every related news pieces.

If you search for Charice’s latest news you would find plenty botox related articles, which is unfortunate considering the fact that she’s making waves with her entertainment career but the media are focusing on the botox issue instead.

The argument is not restricted on whether it’s appropriate to have botox at young age, but also on social issues, self esteem etc… and to certain extend, about racism, sexism and stereotyping in the entertainment industry.

There’s a saying that no news is bad news; but I think this saga is something Charice would rather do without. She’ll bounce back for sure, and it should be a lesson learnt that one cannot be too naive in the showbiz… she should have been more careful about this kind of treatment for whatever reason it is.
