Final week in Seoul

April 5, 2010 by Yein Jee

My last week in Seoul. Will be heading back home by next Monday (Apr 12).

I’ve pretty much covered most attractions in Seoul (albeit not writing much about it)… been thinking about re-visiting a few places, but lacking motivation to do so. I’m actually a bit tired of riding on the subway; it’s convenient, but… I’m not sure how to put it in words… it frustrates me somehow.

The only thing that I’m eagerly awaiting is the cherry blossom, which is coming a bit late this year. It’s expected to start in the next few days in Seoul, so I should be able to see it at its peak before I leave the country.

I’m staying just in Seoul till the end; didn’t wander out of the city except for a day trip to Suwon which is just an hour from central Seoul. Most people might find this odd… like I should be travelling to other provinces especially a few of the major tourist attractions instead of spending all three months in the same city.

I won’t disagree with the point of view, it’s just that travelling is not always about sightseeing; and this long trip is a bit of self-discovery for me.

My business has not been moving forward since July 2009; and there’s something unpleasant with my personal life; and I’ve procrastinated way to long to fulfil my self-promise for a short stay – but longer than typical trips – in a foreign country.

I was thinking of studying overseas after my high school, but my dad passed away a few months prior to my graduation, so the idea was put off (it’s never a certainty at the first place). No regrets though, I’ve had great fun studying in local universities. Besides, STUDYING was not the main intention… it’s the living experience in a foreign country that I’m craving for.

Although three months of stay is not really a long time, and it’s not a great achievement in most sense. But I’ll take that as an accomplishment anyway… for realising a dream that has been lingering for more than a decade.

Staying alone for a few months have also allowed me to clear my minds. Not sure if I can continue to keep my cool regarding the personal issues, but business wise I’ve managed to draw out some plans and putting it into action… working in a different environment does help to brainstorm some new ideas.

Oopps… look how far I’ve strayed of from the initial story. Bottomline is, I’ve been enjoying my stay in Seoul, very much. Not sure how I’m going to spend the final week… it’s not going to be a grand finale… just hope that it would be as pleasant as usual. Gosh, I’m already beginning to miss the city.
