Semeru-Bromo-Batok volcanoes – highlight of my Bromo and Java trip. Had to wake up early in the morning to catch the sunrise and breathtaking scenery of the volcanoes and caldera from the Mt Penanjakan viewpoint, but it’s all worth it…
It must be the most unearthly place that I’ve ever been. The tallest volcano in the backdrop is the active Mt Semeru; the nearest is Mt Batok, a dead volcano; while the steamy sleeping volcano is the famous Mt Bromo.
All these volcanoes are located inside the Tengger Caldera, a massive crater created by super volcano eruptions millions of years ago.
