Following the box office success of Kong: Skull Island, Legendary Pictures have unveiled a teaser for a comic book series which delves deeper into the myths and mysteries of the island.
Titled Skull Island: The Birth of Kong, the comic is both a prequel and a sequel to the American film. They are planning for just a few (monthly) issues and not making this into a long running series. The stories will probably fill some gaps between various instalments in the MonsterVerse franchise.
The battle at 0:30 – the video’s preview image at the time of writing – looks pretty awesome. The filmmakers may be tempted to make a scene out of it in future films, bet the fans are going to love that. They should have just included that in the recent movie though, could be epic.
Regardless, the Kong will be back with Godzilla vs Kong in 2020. It will be the fourth movie in the MonsterVerse series, which also includes Godzilla (2014) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019.
Update – Apparently Legendary has published a graphic novel, Godzilla: Awakening, in conjunction with the 2014 Godzilla film too. Guess the stories are related to this Kong comic in some ways.
