Academy Awards

100 years of Oscars fashion and fun facts

February 8, 2016 by Yein Jee

If you read a bit of Hollywood news you would know by now about the embarrassing moment during the Best Picture presentation at the Academy Awards. Congrats to Moonlight and all the winners, Lalaland will be the one that have long-lasting legacy regardless.

Anyhow, Allure Magazine has made an interesting video prior to the special night. It showcases some iconic fashion at the Oscars over the years, along with some fun facts about the prestigious award.

It’s not exactly 100 years as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences first presented the awards in 1929. The red carpet first appeared in 1961 but Oscars fashion was probably already a trend before that.

A Separation – Oscar Best Foreign Film

February 28, 2012 by Yein Jee

Iranian movie A Separation has won the 2012 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film – the first middle-eastern picture to claim the honour…

The movie tells the story of a middle-class couple who’s heading for divorce, but things got complicated when the husband is accused of causing the miscarriage of their lower-class maid hired to take care of his Alzheimer-suffering father.

The film raised questions on lots of social issues… taking care of elders, marriage, kids, social class, religion, sins, mental illness, distortions etc. The interesting thing is that it managed to squeeze all the issues smoothly in the storyline, with some clever twists.

Written and directed by Asghar Farhadi and starring Leila Hatami, Peyman Moaadi etc.

Major winners of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Full list on its official site.

Glad to see Jeff Bridges winning – one of my favourite actors whom I think should have won something huge since long ago. On the other hand, it’s worth noting that Kathryn Bigelow is the first woman to win an Oscar as best director.
