Civilization VI video game trailer

October 24, 2016 by Yein Jee

Launch trailer for video game Civilization VI, released on Windows last week. It’s the latest edition of the Civilization franchise, a series of turn-based strategy video games started in 1991.

Civilization II was one of the first PC games I played and I still like the series a lot. Besides its entertainment value, it’s also an educational game that I can recommend to my young nephews and nieces.

Gaming is always a tricky thing in parenthood. However, this is a game that I can safely introduce to parents (for their kids) because the knowledge part outweigh most of the probable negative issues. Good or bad we can’t stop children from playing video games these days, may as well find the right ones instead.

Players can learn about the basics of growing a civilisation, city and nation from the game. And if the player is willing to do some reading from the in-game “civilopedia”, they can learn quite a bit about global history and development at various points from 4000 B.C. to modern days.

I only played until Civilization IV though, didn’t get the fifth edition and no intention to get the new one. Although there are new stuff and improvements, the fundamental gameplay seems about the same.

The trailer is cool regardless, the franchise is also good at making these teasers and opening sequences. Actor Sean Bean provided the narration in the video, his voice will also feature in the game. Music by Christopher Tin who won a Grammy with the Civilization IV theme song in 2011.

Thierry Henry – Top 10 Premier League Goals

December 20, 2014 by Yein Jee

Arsenal FC have released a video of their top ten English Premier League goals from club legend Thierry Henry in the wake of his retirement as a professional player.

Henry played for Monaco, Juventus, Barcelona, New York Red Bulls and spent eight years at Arsenal where he is the club’s all-time record goalscorer. He’s also record goalscorer for France and played a part in their 1998 World Cup triumph.

One of my favourite football players, he’s not only good but oozed elegant on the field, and he scored some really amazing and memorable goals.

Forever 21 Times Square Billboard

September 1, 2014 by Yein Jee

Video of a cool interactive billboard by clothing retailer Forever 21 in New York Times Square. Tech firm Wildbytes and ad agency space150 made this for the opening of F21 flagship store in 2010.

Claimed to be the first interactive billboard in Times Square, it features a series of larger-than-life models who interact with the crowds in various ways. This video was from 2012 but AFAIK the billboard is still there, bet it’s pretty popular with tourists and visitors.

A-Z of Dance, cool video by i-D and Diesel

April 17, 2014 by Yein Jee

Cool video featuring various dancing styles. Also an educational one if you are like me, someone who’s not familiar with modern-day dances. Presented by i-D Magazine and fashion brand Diesel.

Official intro by Diesel, “Directed by Jacob Sutton and shot against the beautiful LA skyline, A-Z of Dance shows break-out stars performing the cult dances that made them famous. All wear Jogg Jeans, Diesel’s hybrid clothing that combines denim and sweat.”

Both the magazine and brand are Europe based but they made the video in the United States instead. Not sure why but it makes sense if the Americans popularised many of the dances in this video.

I know they didn’t create (or invent) most of those but you can’t deny the weight of American pop culture. They still has the heaviest influence in the world to make things viral.
