Catch Me (2013) movie teaser

November 21, 2013 by Yein Jee

Teaser for Korean romantic comedy film Catch Me (aka Steal My Heart), written and directed by Lee Hyeon-jong, starring Kim Ah-joong and Joo Won.

Love plot between a police officer and a beautiful thief, not something new unless the filmmaker can put some twist in between. The couple looks cute though.

Jinro Game (2013) movie trailer

October 7, 2013 by Yein Jee

Trailer for Japanese film Jinro Game (literally Werewolf Game), starring Nanami Sakuraba, Taiga, Seika Taketomi, Jingi Irie and Mina Fujii…

The movie is inspired by the Werewolf card/party game (aka Mafia, and many other variants). The idea is a group of “villagers” trying to find a werewolf – or pack of werewolves, depending on number of players – within the group.

The game is run in alternate phases – “day time” when the villagers try to figure out who’s the werewolf, and “night time” when the stealthy werewolf eliminates a villager. The game ends when the werewolf is caught, or when the villagers are outnumbered by the werewolves (not sure who’s the winner if its 1 vs 1).

In the movie, Sakuraba plays a high school girl kidnapped and forced to play the game with nine other people in an abandoned school, in which a person will be killed each night (presumably chosen by the players, or those who try to escape) until they figure out who’s the werewolf.

Cold Eyes Korean movie trailer

July 10, 2013 by Yein Jee

English-subbed teaser for Korean action thriller film Cold Eyes. Directed by Cho Ui-seok and Kim Byeong-seo, and starring Sol Kyung-gu, Jung Woo-sung, Han Hyo-joo, Jin Kyung and Lee Jun-ho.

The movie is a remake of 2007 Hong Kong film Eye in the Sky, about a police surveillance team tracking down a notorious bank robber. It opened in South Korea last week and dominating the local box office. It will make its North American premiere at the Toronto Int’l Film Festival in September.

I like the original film, hope the remake is as good. The Korean cast looks solid though, too bad I doubt it’s going to screen in Malaysian cinemas, will have to find other channels to see this.

Update – It’s a good movie, better than the original which is decent to begin with. Both films share the main plot but the Korean remake has better character developments and finer details for most parts.

26 Years (2012) movie trailer

December 6, 2012 by Yein Jee

Korean trailer for 26 Years, a revenge movie about five people who plot to assassinate “the man” responsible for the Gwangju Massacre [wiki] in May 1980, in which hundreds of civilians were killed by the army.

The movie was directed by Jo Geun-hyun, and starred Jin Goo, Han Hye-jin, Bae Soo-bin, Im Seul-ong, Lee Geung-young and Jang Gwang etc.

The story is based on a popular webcomic by Kang Full, about five victims – gangster, sharpshooter, lobbyist, cop and businessman – of the Gwangju Massacre who attempt to assassinate the former President who was responsible for the tragedy, 26 years after the incident (which was when the webcomic was published).

The film was almost halted completely with major investors pulling out in 2008 because of political sensitivity (the massacre was real, and the ex-President is still alive). The production was revived with support from crowd funding and private investment, and it opened last week at the top of box office in Korea. Bravo.
