Myeong-dong, Seoul’s ladies shopping heaven

January 21, 2010 by Yein Jee

Myeong-dong, arguably Seoul’s trendiest shopping district, is the place to hunt for mid-level fashion and beauty items, especially for the ladies. Visited the area on Sunday (Jan 17), it’s so crowded that there’s barely any spaces to stroll on.

September 30, 2008 by Yein Jee

Ramadan is a Muslim religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, in which the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.

Ramadan is the Islamic month of fasting… Muslims would not eat or drink anything from true dawn until sunset [more on Wiki]

Ramadan is huge in Malaysia with Islam being the predominant religion; temporarily food markets (pasar ramadan) would be set up in various places during the month for the convenience of the Muslims to buy their food for breaking of fasts.

As for non-Muslim, it’s a month to sample a great varieties of dishes and cuisines from the Ramadan markets; it’s also quite a popular season for foreign travellers to visit Malaysia for the traditional food and cultural experience.

Cyclo tour in Old Quarter, Hanoi, Vietnam

August 13, 2008 by Yein Jee

The Old Quarter, as its name indicates, is one of the oldest areas in Hanoi. The place is famous for its streets that are packed with century-old shop-houses specialising in a particular trade… such as shoes, bags, toys, medicines, metals and bamboos etc. The speciality of each street is reflected by the road names.

The Old Quarter is also called the 36 Streets… probably the number of streets when the French started to rebuild the area in the 19th century.

These days there are probably more than 40 streets in Old Quarter; most of the streets are quite short and could be easily navigated on foot… but I was a bit lazy to walk as the summer heat was killing me. I decided to try the cyclo ride instead, which cost me about US$4 for an hour of touring around the area…
