Piranha 3DD movie trailer

May 17, 2012 by Yein Jee

Official trailer for American comedy horror film Piranha 3DD. Directed by John Gulager and stars Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, David Koechner, Chris Zylka, Katrina Bowden, Gary Busey, Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd and David Hasselhoff. Scheduled for release in North America next month.

I remember watching the original Piranha movie when I was a kid. Can’t recall the details but it was scary, and I probably liked it more than Jaws. There were a few sequels; and I just found out that there was a reboot in 2010 which was decent according to reviews, I’ll try to find my way to that one.

This however, as a sequel to the 2010 film, doesn’t look promising. It’s like dumping a pool of prehistoric flesh eating fish into a Baywatch scene, a parody of some sort. They even have David Hasselhoff to make the idea obvious. Guess the movie is more on the comedy side instead of horror.

Ice Kacang Puppy Love movie trailer

March 26, 2010 by Yein Jee

Trailer for Ice Kacang Puppy Love, a Chinese-language Malaysian romance comedy. It’s the directorial debut for singer Ah Niu, who also stars in the movie. The cast also includes Angelica Lee, Gary Chaw, Fish Leong and Victor Wong etc. Most of the cast are better known as singers rather than actors though.

The teaser looks average at best to be frank. Some Malaysians may find comfort in some of the nostalgic little things but that’s probably it. Going to watch this in cinema regardless for the sake of supporting the local filmmakers but they really need to up their standard for long term prospect.

Not sure if it’s getting any overseas release. In cinemas in Malaysia on April 15.

Update – My two cents after watching this. The trailer shows many slapstick stuff but the main plot is about adolescent love. May be better if they make it in a more serious tone instead, not a fan of the childish jokes. Overall it’s decent by local standard, still a long way for this to be marketable overseas.

Sky High movie trailer

August 9, 2007 by Yein Jee

Was digging some information about Michael Angarano – who’s going to star in Chinese American movie The Forbidden Kingdom alongside Jackie Chan and Jet Li – when I found this video. It’s a trailer for Sky High, a 2005 superhero comedy film about a school for teenagers with special power…

Angarano played Will Stronghold, son of two superhero parents in the world where superheroes are part of everyday life. He’s also a student in a high school that exclusively teaches teenagers with superpowers. The rests are coming of age stuff, teen romance and save the parents plot.

I’ve seen the movie on TV, thought it was decent; couldn’t immediately connect the kid from then to now though. The film also starred Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston as the parents, with Danielle Panabaker and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as his schoolmates and love interests.

Speaking of The Forbidden Kingdom, the filming has started earlier this month in Mongolia. It’s the first ever production to feature both Jackie Chan and Jet Li, two of the biggest Asian action movie stars. Angarano will play a significant role in the film. The co-stars include Collin Chou, Liu Yifei and Li Bingbing.

Rush Hour 3 movie trailer

June 12, 2007 by Yein Jee

Trailer for American action comedy film Rush Hour 3. Directed by Brett Ratner as usual, with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker reprising their roles as cop buddies. The duo has to travel to Paris this time to uncover secrets about a notorious triad and also to capture an assassin.

The multinational cast includes Max von Sydow, Hiroyuki Sanada, Yvan Attal, NoƩmie Lenoir and Youki Kudoh. In cinemas in Malaysia and the United States in August 2007.

The film series fall into the “stupid fun” category, which is good for a few laughs but offers zero enlightenment. The first movie in 1998 is actually decent, but the 2001 sequel is pretty average despite starring Zhang Ziyi as a villain. Hope this new instalment will at least be somewhere in between.

Review – Let’s end this for good

Can’t recall from its predecessors but I’m not fond of the amount of sexual jokes in the film. I get that it’s a common thing in Hollywood action comedies but it’s disgusting when they rely too much on that. There are many warning signs in the trailer but I didn’t notice that back then.

There are still some fun moments but it’s a poor movie overall. The two main leads have lost their sparks in tandem and most stuff seems to be getting old. The actions are poor too, one of the worst I’ve seen from a Jackie Chan’s movie. It’s probably wise to end the franchise right here.

On lesser notes, the trailer focuses on Paris (not untrue) but about 30 minutes of the show is set in Los Angeles instead. Chinese actress Zhang Jingchu actually has decent screen time despite not appearing much in the teaser video; she’s also not credited as a main cast which is kinda odd.

Mr. Bean’s Holiday movie trailer

May 27, 2007 by Yein Jee

Trailer for Mr. Bean’s Holiday, a British-French comedy film starring Rowan Atkinson in the title role. It’s based on British TV series Mr. Bean in the 1990s and a standalone sequel to movie Bean in 1997.

Directed by Steve Bendelack and co-starring Max Baldry, Emma de Caunes and Willem Dafoe; it also features veteran French actor Jean Rochefort in a cameo role (as the headwaiter). The film was released in most places back in March but going to show in America in August instead.
