Ximending, Taipei

Ximending is one of the most bustling areas in Taipei with a mixture of new and old culture.

You can find the latest trends and hype in Ximending… fashion, books, entertainment, cosplay, games etc; and on contrary also home to some of the oldest shops and restaurants in Taipei.

Ximending is also a popular place for celebrities to hold fans meeting or small concerts.

National Rice Museum, Kedah, Malaysia

Went to the Muzium Padi Nasional (National Rice Museum) in Kedah, Malaysia, in March 2008. The museum is near the city of Alor Setar and is famous for its huge 360-degree ceiling painting on one of the interior domes.

The mural is a nice piece of art work, featuring the bird-eye-view of the surrounding environment around the museum as well as the growing cycle of the rice crops from ploughing to harvesting etc…

Beijing Olympics roundup (2)

A few more hours to go before the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympics. Some random news and information about Olympics and happenings in Beijing…

The number ‘8’ is seen as a symbol of prosperity for Chinese. The Beijing organisers are optimising their wish for prosperity to the max obviously… by running the opening ceremony on 8.08pm, on the 8th of August, 2008.

Renowned director Zhang Yimou and choreographer Zhang Jigang are the co-directors for tonight’s show at the Beijing National Stadium.

It’s still a mystery on who will light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony. It’s heavily rumoured that gymnastic legend Li Ning will take the honour; we’ll see how true the speculations are.

The Flying Frenchman, Hong Kong

The Flying Frenchman is a sculpture created by French sculptor César Baldaccini. The monument is located at Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui. It was donated by the Cartier Foundation to Hong Kong in April 1992.

Quack Quack… here comes the ducky

This giant rubber duck (26×20×32 metres), created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, can be seen in Nantes, France, during the Loire Estuary 2007, an outdoor art exhibition that features artworks by 30 artists from around the world. Cute stuff…
