SimCity (2013) game trailer

July 16, 2012 by Yein Jee

Trailer for the new SimCity, coming in March 2013. SimCity is a popular city-building video game series. Its last edition (excluding spin-offs) came out way back in 2003, so the fans must be happy with the news.

This latest instalment is using the franchise name as release title which is a bit confusing; they could have put something – e.g. SimCity 5 – to avoid that. Regardless, the video looks pretty awesome.

In the SimCity games, players develop a city by creating zones, and building infrastructures like roads, power plants, and public services like police stations and schools etc. Players also have to manage the financial and social aspects to grow the city. It’s both fun and educational.

I used to play the older version a lot, SimCity 3000 if not mistaken. I didn’t play the 2003 game though, I skipped many entertainment activities during that period because of life commitments.

I’ll probably give the new one a try if time permits. Hope it’s good, if not better than the old games.

The Sims 3 World Adventures – China

October 4, 2009 by Yein Jee

American video game company Electronic Arts is going to release its first expansion pack for The Sims 3 next month. The Sims 3: World Adventures will focus on a travel theme, and “China” is one of the three destinations. Check out the trailer below, a bit stereotypical but looks fun…

The Sims is a popular life simulation video game series, you can read more on wikipedia if you are unfamiliar with it. The Sims 3 – the third major title in the franchise – was released last June. It’s a huge success critically and commercially, with 1.4 million copies sold in the first week.

I played The Sims 2, which was decent. You can do whatever you want with no particular goals or endgame… it’s a bit stupid sometimes but in a good, relaxing kinda way. I’m not fond of paying extra for the expansion packs though, it could add up to a few hundred USD to get everything.

The only expansion I bought for Sims 2 was Pets, which was cute BTW. Not planning to get The Sims 3 anytime soon, too busy for video games these days. I’m the type who goes all in or nothing when gaming, it’s difficult for me to slot in game-time between working hours, vice versa.

Back to the World Adventures, it features three new locations which are simplified versions of Egypt, China and France. There’s a new “tomb exploration” concept with quests and treasures. And there are new skills (e.g. martial arts), objects and activities beside the usual stuff.

Update 2017 – Finally got the game during a big sale, almost a decade after they released the core game. The Sims 4 actually came out in between (in 2014) but it’s not as acclaimed as its predecessor. Can’t make comparison personally but I enjoy playing the oldie at the moment.

Maggie Q – Need for Speed Undercover

August 7, 2008 by Yein Jee

Trailer for racing video game Need for Speed: Undercover, starring Asian American actress Maggie Q. She will feature in the game as an inspector who helps the player (an undercover police officer) in various tasks. To be released in November 2008 by Electronic Arts.

Undercover is the 12th instalment of Need for Speed, a popular racing video game series which dates back to 1994. While most of the games in the franchise include police pursuits in some form, this new release seems to take it to another level by using it as a main plot.

I’ve only played High Stakes (1999) out of the series, which was decent. I’m not a huge fan of the genre though; what piqued my interest back then was that the cars were modelled after actual cars, which was kinda cool. The setting has become a norm for racing games these days.
