Jill Vidal ft. San E – Being Told Chinese MV

June 20, 2016 by Yein Jee

Hong Kong based British singer Jill Vidal is making her comeback, six years after her drug scandal in 2009. She was found guilty for drugs possession in Japan but escaped prison time. Her rising showbiz career was badly affected though.

Vidal was only semi-active since the scandal until signing with Warner Music HK in 2015. She released a new single, titled Being Told (被滿足的愛), in May 2016. She went to Seoul to record the song which featured popular Korean rapper San E.

It’s actually a decent song. There’s clear K-pop elements and it sounds different from standard Cantopop, which may be a good thing since Cantopop is going nowhere these days. This could just be the song she needs for a reboot.

Fala Chen – Cosmopolitan Hong Kong

February 5, 2016 by Yein Jee

Chinese actress Fala Chen in February 2016 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine in Hong Kong. The 33-year-old is taking a break from acting to study on her postgraduate degree in Juilliard – one of the world’s leading drama, music and dance schools – in New York.

This photo shoot is a rare public feature since late 2014. She’s likely to return to showbiz after her graduation (in 2018 if things go smoothly). It’s not clear whether she will be back to Hong Kong or try her luck in other places instead. She will probably branch out into directing too.

ING Group’s beautiful cities in a click illustrations

January 15, 2015 by Yein Jee

Dutch financial company ING Group has launched a new brand positioning, World, Here I Come, in Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. As part of the campaign, ING created a series of Cities In A Click posters which offers travellers useful information to key travel destinations before they board a flight.

Ten local artists from each of the ten cities created an illustration that reflects their city. ING also worked with Lonely Planet to ensure each one provides insightful suggestions and tips. The featured locations are Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Istanbul, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, and New York.

Love the idea. No spots from Africa, Oceania, or South America though. Perhaps those regions are not “key” destinations from ING’s perspective, but these multinational corporates need to show more sensitivity when making a global marketing campaign. Click picture for larger size.

Hong Kong protest seen from above

October 1, 2014 by Yein Jee

Thousands of demonstrators, many of them students, have occupied the streets in Hong Kong to protest Beijing’s decision to vet the candidates for the Chief Executive of Hong Kong election in 2017 (which technically means Hong Kong can only choose a pro-Beijing leader, kinda makes the election pointless.)

This is a video taken from a drone, originally by Nero Chan on Facebook, on September 29. The crowd has reportedly got even bigger in the past couple of days and will probably continue to grow during this holiday period, as China is celebrating its National Day on October 1.

Not sure how this is going to end. I don’t think Beijing is going to back down on this; they may resort to force if the demonstration continues, which is something I don’t want to see. For my friends in Hong Kong, stay strong, whether you are on the streets or against it. Peace.
