OOO, Den-O, All Riders: Let’s Go Kamen Riders

April 5, 2011 by Yein Jee

Japanese trailer for OOO, Den-O, All Riders: Let’s Go Kamen Riders, a special movie in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Kamen Riders franchise.

Kamen Riders was created by mangaka Shotaro Ishinomori. It debuted as a TV series on April 3, 1971. The original show lasted for two years, but its legacy lives on with various spin-off and other masked-men-inspired productions then after. It’s an epic for many Asian folks (especially the guys) who grew up in that era..

Gantz (2011) live action movie trailer

January 14, 2011 by Yein Jee

Trailer for Gantz, a two part Japanese live-action movies adapted from the same title anime-manga series. The film is premiering in US and Japan in late January.

Gantz tells the story of two friends who ‘die’ in an accident and become part of a semi-posthumous game in which they and several others, armed with futuristic weapons and equipments, are forced to hunt down and kill aliens.

The original manga-anime was quite popular, albeit a bit controversial for its content. The live adaptations are starring Kazunari Ninomiya from boy band Arashi, and Kenichi Matsuyama who’s known from the Death Note movies.

Space Battleship Yamato movie trailer (Japanese)

September 27, 2010 by Yein Jee

Japanese trailer for Space Battleship Yamato, starring Kimura Takuya, Meisa Kuroki and Tsutomu Yamazaki etc. The movie will premiere on December 1.

Based on the iconic anime franchise, the story is set in year 2199 where earth is under siege by “foreign” invaders and is facing destruction due to radioactive warfare. And the Space Battleship Yamato is human race’s last hope of survival.

The time-line fits well with renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking’s prediction that our planet could face extinction in two centuries, and that humans must move to space to survive. Perhaps he was a fan of the original anime series lol.

Hanamizuki Japanese Movie

August 30, 2010 by Yein Jee

Japanese trailer (deleted by Youtube) for romance flick Poster image for Japanese movie Hanamizuki (ハナミズキ), starring Yui Aragaki and Toma Ikuta.

Hanamizuki Japanese movie

Hanamizuki (means dogwood tree) tells the story of Sae (Arakagi) and Kohei (Ikuta), high school lovers who face the hardship of adulthood when both of them are walking on different career paths while trying to keep their distant relationship intact. And the situation gets complicated with the involvement of a third party.

The film is based on the lyrics from a same title song by Yo Hitoto, which predictably is also used as the movie theme song (re-recorded by Aragaki).
