ING Group’s beautiful cities in a click illustrations

January 15, 2015 by Yein Jee

Dutch financial company ING Group has launched a new brand positioning, World, Here I Come, in Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. As part of the campaign, ING created a series of Cities In A Click posters which offers travellers useful information to key travel destinations before they board a flight.

Ten local artists from each of the ten cities created an illustration that reflects their city. ING also worked with Lonely Planet to ensure each one provides insightful suggestions and tips. The featured locations are Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Istanbul, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, and New York.

Love the idea. No spots from Africa, Oceania, or South America though. Perhaps those regions are not “key” destinations from ING’s perspective, but these multinational corporates need to show more sensitivity when making a global marketing campaign. Click picture for larger size.

Malaysia Airlines MH17 crashes in Ukraine

July 17, 2014 by Yein Jee

A Malaysia Airlines passenger plane crashes in Ukraine, near Russian border, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard, mostly Dutch. It’s believed that the plane was shot down by pro-Russian separatist.

It’s a sad and shocking tragedy. Condolences to the families, and may the victims rest in peace.

I’m afraid there will be no justice though, if the Russians were really behind this. They are going to deny or ignore the matter and walk free with blood on their hands. The countries at stake don’t have the power to touch them, and the rest of the world will offer very little support against them.

The aviation industry needs to reflect on this too. Hundreds of commercial airlines flew over the conflicted region in the prior week before the MH17 crash. Not sure why they deemed the route safe – or perhaps they never thought about the situation at all – but it’s obviously a wrong judgement.

This is the second disaster involving Malaysia Airlines this year. Flight MH370 disappeared in March; it’s still missing and presumably crashed in the Indian Ocean with 239 people on board.

Giant rubber duck by Florentijn Hofman

Excerpt from Hofman’s website…

The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!
