Bharat Tea Plantation, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

July 28, 2009 by Yein Jee

The Cameron Valley Tea House was the first stop of my Cameron Highlands trip on July 11. Located beside the main road (between Ringlet and Tanah Rata) and overseeing the Bharat Tea Plantation, the tea house is a perfect place for tourists to have a first glance of what Cameron Highlands has to offer…

Ice fishing at Korea’s Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival

January 23, 2009 by Yein Jee

Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival is an annual winter festival in Hwacheon County, South Korea, which attracts over a million visitors each year.

Ice fishing at Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival in South Korea

The 7th edition of the festival was held on January 10-19 in 2009; as usual the highlight of the festival is ice fishing for Sancheoneo (cherry salmon), a mountain trout species found primarily in north-eastern Asia.

Besides fishing, the frozen Hwacheongang River also plays host to ice/snow sledding, snow castle/sculpture, bobsleigh, ice tubing, ice soccer, ice skating and other winter recreation activities. More info on Sancheoneo Festival’s official website.

Malaysia Int’l Fireworks Competition 2008

August 22, 2008 by Yein Jee

Malaysia International Fireworks Competition (MIFC) 2008 is held in the month of August in conjunction with the country’s independence day celebration.

I was planning to go for a show on Wednesday, but the weather was not permitting; will try my luck again on Sunday. Meanwhile, catch a video below, produced by an official media partner of MIFC with the Malaysian team performing on August 12.

Besides the Malaysian team, other teams that are competing in the event this year are from China, Spain, Canada and Australia.

Update – check out a few photos taken by yours truly during one of the shows.

Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi, Vietnam

July 31, 2008 by Yein Jee

Hoan Kiem Lake (Hồ Hoàn Kiếm), or Lake of Returned/Restored Sword, is located at the historical centre of Hanoi and is a popular hangout place for locals. The lake is not so much of a tourist spot itself, but there’s plenty of other sites around the area, thus making it an important landmark of the city.
