Stoker movie trailer

October 4, 2012 by Yein Jee

Official trailer for British-American psychological thriller film Stoker, starring Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode and Nicole Kidman. Written by Wentworth Miller who’s better known as an actor; and directed by acclaimed Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook as his English-language debut.

The movie tells the story of India Stoker whose father dies in a car accident on her 18th birthday. At the funeral she (and her mother) meets with her mysterious uncle who has spent his life travelling around the world. And things begin to unfold one after another as he moves in to “take care” of the family.

The teaser probably reveals a bit too much. It’s obvious that India is going to be a monster in the end. The film is just about the process, in which the uncle obviously plays a huge part. I’m guessing that the father’s death is not accidental as well, just a matter of who’s the killer.

X-Men: First Class movie trailer

February 17, 2011 by Yein Jee

Trailer for American superhero film X-Men: First Class, the fifth instalment in the X-Men film series. Set in the 1960s, it’s a prequel to the first three movies. The story focuses on the early relationship between Professor X and Magneto and the origin of their respective group before they become rivals.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn of Kick Ass. In cinemas in the United States in June 2011.

James McAvoy stars as Charles Xavier aka Professor X, while Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto. The co-stars include Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Nicholas Hoult, Oliver Platt, Jason Flemyng, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, Caleb Landry Jones, Zoe Kravitz and Kevin Bacon.

Not fond of the trailer to be frank. I was excited when the first X-Men movie came out back in 2000 because I did watch some of its cartoons when I was little. The films are not bad (except maybe the fourth one) but didn’t make me a bigger fan; if there’s anything my interest with the franchise faded instead.

Regardless, it’s a smart move from the producers to extend the film series. It’s not exactly a reboot but they can start afresh on most things. Kinda hope that they provided a proper ending to the original timeline before jumping onto the prequel, but guess it’s not meant to be.
