UFO sightings in Hangzhou, China

July 16, 2010 by Yein Jee

China UFO sightingAn unidentified flying object (UFO) was spotted last week near Xiaoshan Airport in Hangzhou, China.

I thought it was a prank at first, but it’s later confirmed by the airport reps that 18 flights were interrupted due to the sighting on July 7. An official investigation has been launched, but with no conclusion yet.

There are many speculations about the UFO, but the foreign media seem to favour the idea that it’s a secret military experiment by the Chinese… a hypothesis which the Chinese government hasn’t publicly denied (or admitted whatsoever).

Stephen Hawking: Don’t contact the aliens

April 26, 2010 by Yein Jee

E.T.Renowned scientist Stephen Hawking has warned human beings against making contact with the aliens. Quoted from a new Discovery Channel documentary series about the possibility of extraterrestrial life forms [via BBC]:

Prof Hawking thinks that, rather than actively trying to communicate with extraterrestrials, humans should do everything possible to avoid contact.

He explained: “We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet.

“If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans,” he said.

“The real challenge is to work out what aliens might actually be like.”

The quotes are probably taken out of context, but it’s a valid point. Thing is, we don’t really know how the aliens would be like; it could be super-friendly or ultra-dominant… and we won’t know until the day that a serious contact is made.

I would like to think that they’re not as “evil” as human beings though lol.

Hippocamp the mythological seahorse

July 21, 2007 by Yein Jee

Hippocamp, or Hippocampus, is a mythological creature shared by Phoenician and Greek mythology which supposedly looks like a seahorse.

Hippocamp mosaic at the Roman BathsIn Greek mythology, Hippocamps were the mounts for Poseidon, the god of sea; whereas Neptune (Roman version of Poseidon) was often described to be riding on sea-chariot pulled by hippocamps.

Hippocamps were often used in traditional artworks and sculptures in Roman’s fountains and public baths; some of these arts can still be seen places like England’s Roman Baths (pic) and Italy’s Trevi Fountain.

The mythological creature still has its influence in modern days. Hippocamps are featured quite often in fantasy story books – including the famous Harry Potter – and also in various fantasy games like Dungeons & Dragons etc.
