Mr Bean – Eating Competition

July 1, 2010 by Yein Jee

Sharing a funny clip from British sitcom series Mr. Bean from the 1990s. It’s one of my favourite shows, and seems like the production company has created an official YouTube channel here. Most of the videos are from the animated spin-off but there are some old gems like this one in the mix.

Mr. Bean was a creation by Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis, with Atkinson starring as the title character. I didn’t realise this earlier but they only made a total of 15 episodes for the show; the first episode aired in 1990 and the last in 1995. Regardless, it became one of British’s most famous cultural export.

The series was adapted into a feature film, Bean, in 1997. They also made a standalone sequel, Mr. Bean’s Holiday, a decade later. Both movies had moderate box office results in America but did well worldwide; seems like the character was not as popular in the US like many other countries.

The comedy also inspired a 52-episodes animated series (of the same name) which broadcast from 2002 to 2004. They also released a video game last year featuring the animated characters; I guess the animation are pretty popular on its own too, they won’t spend money making the game otherwise.

Trailer for Mr. Bean’s Holiday, a British-French comedy film starring Rowan Atkinson in the title role. It’s based on British TV series Mr. Bean in the 1990s and a standalone sequel to movie Bean in 1997.

Directed by Steve Bendelack and co-starring Max Baldry, Emma de Caunes and Willem Dafoe; it also features veteran French actor Jean Rochefort in a cameo role (as the headwaiter). The film was released in most places back in March but going to show in America in August instead.
