f(x) – LA chA TA Korean music video

September 4, 2009 by Yein Jee

Korean music video for LA chA TA, début song for female teenage pop group f(x) (average age about 17) which is managed by SM Entertainment.

The group début is hugely anticipated after the huge success of label mate Girls Generation. The song is just ok IMO, but the girls will have plenty of time and chances to improve and evolve if it doesn’t work out at the beginning.

TVXQ vs SM Entertainment, the battle begins

August 24, 2009 by Yein Jee

Korean pop group TVXQThe first hearing for TVXQ vs SM Entertainment case was held at the Seoul District Court last Friday (Aug 21), in which three of five members from the Korean pop group are seeking contract termination with their agency due to unfair terms.

Among their accusations are the duration of the contract (13-15 yrs), unfair distribution of profit, and overloaded schedules etc.

I’m not going into the contract details; I can agree that the terms are unfair… but why sign the contract if it’s not a decent one to begin with?

These celebs chose to sacrifice their freedom to seek fame and fortune; some of them could argue that they were deceived (at young age), but there’s no denying that they were blinded by their own desire while penning the deal.

SM seems to have the legal advantage in the case; it’s afterall a signed contract. But TVXQ are getting huge backing from their fans; with over 800,000 throng of supporters threatening boycott on SM’s other products, the company might just seek a compromised solution to end the saga.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009 (US & Canada)

February 6, 2009 by Yein Jee

SM Entertainment, one of Korea’s largest talent management agencies, is kicking off its 09′ global audition on February 14th in its home ground, with plans to extend the audition to China, Japan, South East Asia, Canada and USA etc.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2009

SM is looking for various talents in singing, acting, dancing, modelling etc. It’s said that all Asians are welcome regardless of nationality and age… but I doubt they would want a 40-year-old veteran lol.

[update] USA & Canada audition announced; no news on other places.

Nov 15 – Wilshire Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles
Nov 22 – Toronto Korean Center, Toronto
Nov 22 – Executive Plaza Hotel, Vancouver
Nov 27/28 – Korea Village, New York

Refer to SM Entertainment’s official website for more details. Also check out JYPE audition and Avex audition which are running in Oct/Nov in US and Canada.

SM Entertainment Global Audition 2008 (US & Canada)

August 11, 2008 by Yein Jee

SM Entertainment, the Korean talent agency that boost the likes of BoA, Kangta, TVXQ, Super Junior, SNSD, Ara and Lee Yeon-hee etc. will be holding the “08 SM Entertainment Global Audition” in Sept/Oct 2008.

The auditions will be held from September 19 to October 25 in Hawaii, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Orange County (CA), New York, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver. Nationality doesn’t matters, but it seems like they are looking for Asian faces only.

It’s funny that SM is calling it a ‘global’ audition when in fact the locations are limited to US and Canada. Regardless, it’s a chance for young Asian talents to try their luck if they are interested with the entertainment business.

Set aside the publicity purpose, SM do mean business with the auditions. If not mistaken Tiffany from SNSD and Henry from Suju-M were discovered from previous auditions… there might be a few more that I’m not aware of.

Check SM’s website for details and updates. Good luck if there is any taker here.
