Kusanagi is an actor and a member of boy band SMAP. He was one of Japan’s biggest stars but his career suffered a dip because of a scandal a few years ago…

Arrest

Police arrested Kusanagi for public indecency in April 2009. It’s reported that he was drunk and stripped himself while causing ruckus at a park after midnight.

He made a quick apology and was not charged, but his public image dropped a lot. He’s climbing back gradually since then but probably still off from his peak.

Teaser for Japanese movie Dearest (あなたへ, Anata e), directed by Yasuo Furuhata and stars iconic actor Ken Takakura. In theatres August 2012.

The story follows a man’s journey to his wife’s hometown in order to scatter her ashes into the sea. He travels through many famous locations, recalling his memories with his wife along the way. He also meets and makes new friends.

Japan Ad Council and Korea Broadcast Advertising Corp have jointly produced a commercial featuring popular stars Choi Ji-woo and Tsuyoshi Kusanagi.

The ad promotes no-car day in Korea and recycling project in Japan. The idea is to create a friendly rivalry between the two nations to protect the environment.

Sinking of Japan (2006) movie review

Sinking of Japan (日本沈没, Nihon Chinbotsu ) is a 2006 Japanese disaster movie directed by Shinji Higuchi. It’s a remake of a 1973 film which itself was an adaptation of a novel by Sakyo Komatsu. Both movies and the novel have different English titles but it’s the same in Japanese.

The 2006 film starred Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, Kou Shibasaki, Etsushi Toyokawa, Mao Daichi and Mitsuhiro Oikawa etc. More details on cast and crew at end of the post.

The story is about Japan “sinking” into the sea because of tectonic plate motions. And time is running out for the Japanese people as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis begin to devour the country.
