Ninja Assassin movie trailer

August 5, 2009 by Yein Jee

Trailers for Ninja Assassin, starring Korean pop star Rain, his first leading role in a Hollywood film. Looks like a typical Hollywood action movie, but not bad…

Rain plays an assassin who was trained to be a killing machine since he was a kid; but ran away from the group after seeing his friend mercilessly executed by the clan. He later saved a Europol agent (Naomie Harris) who is investigating the organisation and the duo work together to bring down the clan.

Check out previous video and photos of Rain training with the stunt and martial arts team. The movie will release in American cinemas on November 25.

Warner Bros sue Bollywood’s Hari Puttar

August 27, 2008 by Yein Jee

US’ Warner Bros have filed a lawsuit against Mumbai-based Mirchi Movies related to the title of its upcoming film Hari Puttar – A Comedy of Terrors, which Warner feels is a bit too similar to its Harry Potter franchise [more on THR].

Indian movie Hari Puttar

Hari is a popular Indian name while Puttar means son in the Punjabi language. It’s said that the storyline doesn’t relate to Harry Potter at all… and judging from the poster alone, I would have ruled that Mirchi is the winner for the lawsuit.

However, I can’t deny the probability that the Indian movie maker is being opportunistic for publicity, which they managed to get it now regardless of whether it was intentional at the first place.

Korean pop star Rain exclusive interview

April 28, 2008 by Yein Jee

Exclusive phone interview with Korean singer-actor Rain, real name Jung Ji-hoon, who is set to make his Hollywood debut next month with movie “Speed Racer”.

The interview was done via an interpreter; the only English words Rain had said were “Hi, I am Rain” and “Thank you, thank you. Nice to be hearing from you”… but I’ll take it as an honour regardless. Full transcripts below…

Mach Go! Go! Go! aka Speed Racer

April 28, 2008 by Yein Jee

Mach Go! Go! Go! is a 1960’s Japanese anime which is aired in US as well under the title Speed Racer. A live action film adaptation of Speed Racer, directed by the Wachowski brothers of Matrix fame, is set to premiere in May 2008.

Three videos below… the original Japanese anime intro (with English subs), opening of the US anime, and lastly the official trailer of the 2008 movie…

I’m thankful that Warner Bros have arranged an interview with Rain, a Korean pop star who’s making his Hollywood debut in the live action movie, but I’m not feeling good about the movie adaptation to be honest. It looks way too cartoonish, which I’m not sure if it’s a good thing. It might appeal to teenage or younger generation, but it’s probably a bit too much for me.
