The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines movie trailer

April 9, 2011 by Yein Jee

Extended trailer for The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines, a Malaysian production which is loosely based on the legend of Merong Mahawangsa, founder of the northern Kedah state in the 12th century. The movie is primarily in English with the aim to introduce Malaysian film (and culture) internationally…

The film stars Stephen Rahman Hughes as Merong Mahawangsa, a descendant of Alexander the Great, who escorted Prince Marcus Carprenius (Gavin Stenhouse) of the Roman Empire to Langkasuka to marry Princess Meng Li Hua (Jing Lusi) from the Han Dynasty of China. He fought off a troop of enemies in process and was pronounced the first king of Langkasuka (later Kedah) for his heroic effort.

Malaysian movies are making progress in recent years and is getting healthy responses from local audiences. But with a relatively small budget (for an action movie) of US$3 million and seemingly lack of experience in this genre, the film is obviously not going to get much love in foreign market. We seem to be moving in the right direction though.
