Transformers 2 breaks China’s box office record

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has become China’s biggest ever box office hit. The American scifi action film has grossed over 400 million Chinese yuan (US$59 million) since its release.

Revenge of the Fallen is the second instalment of the Transformer film series. It’s just over a week since the sequel was released in Chinese theatres, so the record is bound to be higher in the end.

The previous best-selling film in the country was Titanic back in 1998, with a gross of 360 million yuan.
