Choi Ji-woo and Tsuyoshi Kusanagi in environmental ad

July 12, 2008 by Yein Jee

Japan Ad Council and Korea Broadcast Advertising Corp have jointly produced a commercial featuring popular stars Choi Ji-woo and Tsuyoshi Kusanagi.

The ad promotes no-car day in Korea and recycling project in Japan. The idea is to create a friendly rivalry between the two nations to protect the environment.

Japanese version…

Korean version…

The Korean ad appears longer but I believe Japan has identical one too, vice versa. Just that I couldn’t find other versions on YouTube.

The actors

Choi Ji-woo is arguably the most popular Korean actress in Japan. She starred in Winter Sonata is 2002, which is one of the highest rated Korean drama series in Japan. She appears in various Japanese commercials since then.

Tsuyoshi Kusanagi is a member of popular Japanese boy band SMAP. He also starred in many movies and TV series, including Hotel Venus, a 2004 Japanese-made Korean-language film. He’s also a famous fan of Korean culture.

Both stars can speak in Japanese and Korean fluently as shown in the videos.
