Malaysia is celebrating 50 years of independence in 2007, and the government has designated this as a Visit Malaysia Year. Check out the promotion video for this special occasion.
I don’t always boost about things from my country but I think we have some pretty amazing tourism campaigns. The Malaysia Truly Asia slogan is also a classic, albeit a controversial one. A few of our neighbours are not that happy with the tagline, but I’ll leave the long story for another day.
Malaysia has a short history compared to many Asian civilisations, thus we have very few “original” stuff to be frank. However, we are a melting pot of cultures because we have been a major hub for East-West trading since the 15th century. You can’t find many countries as culturally diversified as ours.
The situation is changing though, as Malaysia is moving towards Islamification. Nothing against the religion, and Islam has been the main belief in the region for centuries. Just that it’s getting more dominant because of birthrate and other reasons, and seems like it’s going to continue that way.
We probably won’t be Truly Asia in another 50 years, but it’s still a beautiful country for now. On side note, I tried to find the title (and singer) of the song but to no avail. There are a few songs in the 2007 campaign, the official one is One Golden Celebration but I like the one I shared a bit more.
Update – One Golden Celebration
A few readers suggested that the singer is Juwita Suwito. I know she’s the singer of One Golden Celebration but not sure if she sings the one above as well. Couldn’t find anything online to confirm this, and I’m hopeless when trying to compare the voice (between videos). Thanks for the tips regardless.
Since I’ve mentioned this a couple of times, may as well share the MV too, One Golden Celebration…
