A walk in Cemoro Lawang, the casuarina valley

December 18, 2009 by Yein Jee

A brief stroll at Cemoro Lawang, a small village on the Tengger Crater’s edge where we were staying for three nights during our Bromo trip in November 2009. It’s a pretty scenic place to walk around with a bit of European valleys feel…

Cemoro Lawang, East Java, Indonesia

Cemoro, or Cemara, literally means pine/fir/casuarina in Indonesian; in this case it’s probably referring to casuarina which is native to this geographical region. There’s relatively plentiful of casuarina trees here; seemed like casuarina and spring onions were the only plants that grew well in this volcanic area.
