Korean star Jang Geun-suk has topped Japan’s Oricon weekly chart with his debut single, Let Me Cry. He’s said to be the first foreign artist to top the authoritative Japanese chart with a debut single.
Jang’s previous drama, You’re Beautiful, was a huge hit in Japan and across Asia, which probably explains why the rookie (singer) managed to top the chart.
The feat still appears as a little surprise, as all eyes were on Jang’s Korean compatriot, Girls’ Generation, who came close at second spot with their first original Japanese single, Mr Taxi. How ironic is that the girl group’s attempt to top the chart is spoiled by a fellow countryman of all people.
