Kara (카라, often stylised as KARA) is one of South Korea’s top female pop groups, with hit songs like Honey, Mister, Lupin and Jet Coaster Love etc.
KARA made their debut as a four member unit with album First Blooming in March 2007. The group was reshuffled in 2008 to become a five member team; the members of KARA are Gyuri, Seungyeon, Nicole, Hara and Jiyoung. Check out Kara member profiles.
The five-member KARA released a mini-album, Rock U, in July 2008 before making their breakthrough in November with mini-album Pretty Girl, followed by a repackaged Honey EP which became their first #1 song. The girls released their second full length album, Revolution Vol.2, in July 2009 – its first track Mister was a mega huge hit.
KARA released their third mini album, Lupin, in February 2010, which was also a huge success. They released their first Japanese single with a Japanese version of Mister in August, followed by their first original Japanese song, Jumping, in October. The group released their first full Japanese album, Girl’s Talk, in November.
KARA’s Korean activity was temporarily halted in early 2011 due to contract dispute, but they did well in Japan, becoming the first Korean girl group to top the Oricon Weekly Single Chart (with Jet Coaster Love in April). KARA made their Korean comeback in September with their third album, Step.
