May’n to perform at AFA08 in Singapore

Japanese pop starlet May’n will be performing live in Singapore at the 2008 Anime Festival Asia (AFA) on November 23.

May Nakabayashi to perform at AFA in Singapore

The 19-year-old singer is one of Japan’s hottest rising star. She made her professional début in 2005 and got her breakthrough in 2008 as the singing voice for Sheryl Nome in popular anime Macross Frontier. Her two latest singles have both made it to the top three spots on the Japanese Oricon chart.

While not exactly the same class with the likes of Ayumi Hamasaki and Namie Amuro etc… May’n’s performance is quite anticipated in this region that is so deprived of J-pop act. Plenty of anime fans are awaiting her arrival for sure.

Anime Festival Asia 2008 Singapore

Anime and otaku culture is huge in Southeast Asia. There are a few notable anime events in the region, but mostly limited to cosplay festival because of the lack of commercial exhibitors. The AFA08 is certainly an exciting news for the anime fans; for once it seems like there’s finally a huge anime related event in this region.

I’ll keep an eye on this… might consider flying to Singapore if it’s creating enough buzz by November, and I hope it would.
