A video by Japanese car maker Subaru about the benefits of a flat engine, also known as a boxer engine. The later got its name because of the pistons which move horizontally like boxers throwing punches.
Subaru and Germany’s Porsche are the only two large auto manufacturers who use it as primary setting. If not mistaken Subaru use it in all of their cars.
The flat engine can reduce vibration and improve handling. There’s no issue performance wise, but the fact that most car makers are not using the design means it has its problems, e.g. extra parts and maintenance cost etc.
